Reed Funeral Home beginning their 26th year of service
The Reed Funeral Home of Sullivan was established in 1985 by David and Lynn Reed, both licensed funeral directors. Located at 1112 South Hamilton Street, construction of the new funeral home began in May and was completed by late September.
The new 6000 sq. foot funeral home was the only one, and still is the only one in Moultrie County, that was specifically designed and constructed to conduct funerals, thus keeping the comfort and convenience of the families that we serve in mind.
Several features of the new funeral home is that the entire building is on one level, thus eliminating any stairs or ramps, spacious rooms and extra wide doors ensure that all of the facility is totally handicap accessible and a covered carport where families can enter and exit the funeral home easily during inclement weather.
An open house was held on Saturday, November 16th and Sunday, November 17th, 1985 with over 800 persons attending. A dedication ceremony was held that Sunday afternoon conducted by members of the Sullivan Ministerial Association.
Even though we may be considered a relatively new business, the combined experience of our staff represents an excess of 100 years of funeral service. In addition to Lynn and Dave, our staff includes long time Sullivan residents Cletus Reed, a licensed funeral director, Doris Haneline, Chuck Hutchcraft, Eric Crouse, Jack Cavanaugh and Jim Smith.
Over the years, the Reed Funeral Home has dedicated ourselves to providing the finest quality in funeral and cremation services. We were the first funeral home in Sullivan to offer monuments through our association with Adams Memorials of Charleston, the area’s largest monument dealer. In the area of funeral pre-planning, we were the first funeral home to offer life insurance policies as a way of pre-funding funerals. This option, along with our funeral trust program, offered more flexibility to those wishing to pre-arrange their funeral services. Availability of aftercare programs and an extensive resource library to anyone who has lost a loved one is another of our many services provided.
Today, personalization of the services have become a common request and we have been constantly improving our ability to give our families the most meaningful, personalized funeral or cremation service at an affordable price.
